See It Through

March 22, 2021

The goal is not to start. The goal is to see it through.

There are a hundred, a thousand, or more reasons to quit. Right?  We know that it’s not the right time. There are other priorities and the days aren’t ever long enough to get everything done. Sure, that’s true.

Is it important, however?  In other words, if you do see it through will it change your life — or that of others – for the better? If so, perhaps it’s time to pause and reconsider your options.

This isn’t about completing the necessary tasks of daily living; there are certainly plenty of those. Yet even those tasks can contribute to your overall purpose. I’m thinking here about launching a new project, commencing a fresh initiative, or embarking on a journey.

Beginning with a clear Objective is crucial and these three questions will help frame it:

1. What, specifically, do you intend to accomplish?

2. How will you know when you get there?

3. What constitutes a successful outcome for your Objective?

With these clear answers in mind, thought turns to how you will get there and how to gauge progress.

For each refined objective, there are likely multiple, aligned actions to be taken to successfully see it through.  Ask yourself:

1. Where do I begin, with an activity that will create positive energy and generate forward motion?

2. How many key actions do I need to launch?

3. What will be the Measured Result for each one?

Achieving true progress is never easy, but having clarity at the outset will help you stay the course when obstacles invariably arise. Your vision of the desired outcome and action plan to get there will enable you to see it through.
