Near and Far

March 14, 2021

The Eagle calls so it must be spring,
A riveting reminder of your presence.
Vivid memories rush to top of mind,
Which capture your very essence.

Time marches forward year-by-year,
Moving us forward with the steps of each day.
How can it be that what we hold dear,
Continually moves farther away?

Still so Near and yet so Far…

We can still hear your laugh,
And who could forget that big smile?
They come through to us still,
Whenever we pause for awhile.

How many lives did you touch,
During the light of your time here?
Those you marched with press on,
Doing good works others hold dear.

Still so Near and yet so Far…

Memories of your legendary humor,
Grow ever stronger each time stories are told.
For us who soldier on,
These will never get old.

It’s a shame you can’t add more to the list,
So we treasure the gifts you left here.
You always did squeeze the most out of each day,
How to Maximize the Moment is the lesson most clear.

Still so Near and yet so Far…

We’ll miss you until we meet again,
So continue embracing our memories until then.

Still so Near and yet so Far…
Still so Near and yet so Far…

A fitting tribute to a hero taken far too soon!
