Leadership Orbit

January 28, 2023

Focused energy and consistent effort are required to elevate your leadership. Without those elements, there will either be a failure to launch or it may quickly yield to the gravitational pull of daily demands and plummet back to ground level. Your mission depends upon a successful launch because:

A business cannot reach beyond the orbit of its leadership.

Once in orbit, vigilant attention to performance metrics is required, along with course corrections to remain on the desired path. But the vast energy required for the initial launch can instead be focused on expanding capabilities to reach new horizons.

To prepare for launch is to understand and value these foundational leadership principles:

  • Putting People First
  • Placing Purpose Second — What is Your Mission?
  • Paying close attention to Details, Always

Once you’re off the launch pad, to achieve orbit requires these essential skills:

  • Focused ability to Look and Listen
  • Need to Set the Tone: “The Culture Thing”
  • Effective Communication to keep the mission crew informed
  • Attention on Measuring What Matters
  • Building and Sustaining Momentum, to reach orbit and remain aloft

Once in orbit, an expanded reach calls for:

  • Adapting to Change
  • Navigating When Something Goes Wrong
  • Believing that Growth Matters
  • Bias for making The Decision to Act

When these elements work in sync, the result is Leadership Worthy. It’s how leaders (and astronauts) are made! The journey and the elevated view offer their own reward.

Tempus Maximize!
