Fork in the Road

March 1, 2017

Picture

As we travel through life, including the career portion, we make constant adjustments in our direction.  Most are subtle, small adjustments to stay on course.  Occasionally we come to a fork in the road.  When standing at the fork, a decision must be made; after all, standing still is not a viable option.

Choosing your path forward must be a thoughtful decision, based upon the facts you have regarding available choices and infused with your best instincts.  If you’ve been thoughtful in prior situations up to that point, the right choice becomes clear.  You know if the pieces fit.

For nearly five years now, via “Cultivation(s)” I’ve shared my active thoughts and perspective on what’s required to grow a bountiful culture and build a successful business.  Your input and shared insights along the way have made this a most worthwhile pursuit.  Judging from the business I’ve seen develop around me, I’d say the process is working!  You have done admirable work.

My current role, coupled with past experiences, provided the ideas and content I’ve shared weekly in this space.  Cultivation(s) has really been about You all along, because the insights I’ve shared are a reflection of the observations I’ve made.  Now I stand at my own fork in the road and will soon be changing my perspective to see the world from a slightly different geographic angle.

To all of you I’ve met and known along the way, some very well and for a long time and some only in passing, Thank You!  You’ve enriched my life in remarkable ways.  To those I’m about to meet on the road ahead, I look forward to discovering, learning and sharing from a new perspective.

Enjoy the Journey!

It has been a pleasure to work with you these past 12 ½ years…I couldn’t have asked for a better boss or mentor. Thank you for taking a chance on me back then! Where do I begin? For here and now, I’ll simply thank you for buying into the Vision for what first Austin Outdoor, and now Yellowstone Landscape, would become — and then working tirelessly to help us get there. You are a master at many things and I’m better for having known and worked with you.
      All the best,
      Bill

    Bill,
It has been a true pleasure working with you these past 10 years! Some leaders give orders, you gave us direction. Other leaders give targets, you gave us a vision. Others lead by authority, you have always led us by respect. Farewell to a great Leader, like no other. You will be missed.
I wish you all the best now and always!
    Jenny

    • Jenny-
I read your words at the end of a very long and special day. You can’t imagine what they mean to me. And I can’t properly express here how deeply I appreciate the endless things you’ve done to make Austin Outdoor and now Yellowstone a better place for the people who work there.
      All the best,
      Bill

Incredibly wise, intelligent, and polite personality I’ve always admired… there was no feeling of distance, age or social or professional differerence in any conversation that I was lucky to experience. Feels like the greatest piece of puzzle of the picture I am used to will be missing. Thank you for everything, Bill, and all the best in your new journey!!!

    • Galina-
I often reflect on our good fortune to have you join the business how and when you did. You have contributed so much in so many ways and remained a stabilizing force through multiple changes. Thank you for being YOU!
      All the best,
      Bill
