Fit and Finish

May 15, 2021

The hallmark of a custom home is the quality of Fit and Finish throughout. The same can be said of an exceptional business.

It begins with my business mantra of People First, Purpose Second and…Details Always.

Details represent the fit and finish of a business; team members take pride in them and clients value them. The fit and finish of a business is evident in every touch point and service offering; it is the collection of literally thousands of elements that produce a level of quality and performance which eclipses the competition.

Here are 7 Questions that define Fit and Finish:

  •  “Who” answers the phone, or responds to an Inquiry, and what is their tone?

    • Reaching a live person on the other end is increasingly rare; if you don’t manage to reach one, you can always leave a message in the black hole……
    • Do virtual assistants offer meaningful assistance, or are they a virtual roadblock?
  • How does your digital face look?

    • Is your website fresh and clean and are the people displayed on it still with you?
    • Can prospects readily see and understand what you do – and translate that into how you might do it for them?
    • Does your contact form actually make contact?
  • What’s the very first thing that clients experience?

    • Is what happens about them?
    • Or instead is it about you — and what your business will or will not do?
  • If you’re operating a business Involving use of machinery and equipment, how does the shop look?

    • From my observations through the years, the fit and finish you see in the shop (or “back of house” in any business) offers a telling preview for what clients will ultimately experience.
  • Are your proposals crisp and clean?

    • Does the content represent a level of fit and finish that helps clients quickly understand your value proposition?
    • Can clients decipher your offerings to see what’s in it for them?
  • Does what you say, do and deliver provide a customized fit?

    • Or might “cookie cutter” better describe it?
  • Do you finish as strongly as you start?

    • Does the client experience feel smooth throughout or is it rough around the edges? What’s the very last thing your client will experience?

There are countless elements woven in and around these moments of truth that collectively define the fit and finish of your brand. Details matter!
