The Real Deal

Last week in this space I shared thoughts on what it means to be truly “All-In” and listed 18 observations that describe highly-engaged people.  The most essential element of being All-In, however, is being Genuine – perhaps better described as the “Real Deal”.  People will quickly spot a fake.

With a heart the size of Texas and exuberant personality, Bob Jaynes is the Real Deal.  Folks that work with him at BIO know him as Arborist Extraordinaire and a dedicated leader.  Those that meet him for the first time quickly figure out that Bob is as real is it gets; to say that he’s passionate about his team and his mission would be an understatement.

When I posted my “All-In” article, Bob reached out to me and shared his perspective; it’s so powerful that I feel compelled to share it with you in his own words:

“I remember the first time being asked by Jim if I was “IN” or “OUT”.  Jim had 3 other partners during the Texas Services years when I joined them. I worked for all 4 partners for some 8 years, plus or minus. Jim and another partner cornered me one day to let the cat out of the bag and went on to explain if I was “IN” they would be willing to make me a partner. Within 1 minute of being asked I said I’m “IN”.  We stayed committed to the playbook, paid our debt off and made some money.”

Fast forward several years, when the Texas Services business became a division of BIO Landscape, and Bob commented:

“I was once again asked: Bob you “IN” or are ya’ “OUT”?  My answer was exactly the same as when asked previously.  Shortly after the (change), however, I felt “man things aren’t going good for me man” and they weren’t business-wise at that time.

Point being, team, being “IN” is a fun place to hang out; you find a lot of winners there but it’s not always an easy decision. The game of being “IN” hasn’t always been easy for me and won’t be for you at times either.

Remember this, once you have committed to being “IN” but want “OUT” later cause things ain’t working out for you man, you are not only letting yourself down, but also the players who play for you down, including letting the entire conference for which you play down.  Keep moving downfield.”

Well said, Bob!  Your words and your actions are The Real Deal.
